On July 22nd, a significant step was taken to ensure the safety and future use of the vacant lot at 400 High Street. The brick walls were repointed, and the surface smoothed, marking the first time in nearly a decade that this space has been free from the danger of falling debris. This moment is especially meaningful as it comes after the walls of the adjacent Essex House began to crumble back in December of 2014, leaving the site in disrepair and limiting its use.
With the walls now stabilized, the space, known as La Plaza, is ready to host community activities safely. This project not only restores a sense of security but also symbolizes the ongoing revitalization of the neighborhood, turning a once hazardous space into a vibrant place for gathering, creativity, and connection.
